Forras Missions

Metro Manila, Philippines                                                                                 JUNE 2004

It has been more than a month since our last letter. Here is what went on in the month of May.

  • 2 Teams from Eastside Foursquare Church arrived for ministry
  • Found a house…lost the house
  • Tina’s application process for dual citizenship – yes…this ties in with our shipping container
  • Shipping container arrived sooner than expected…not released yet

  • Teams from Eastside Foursquare Church in Manila for Ministry

A team of 11 led by Pastor DJ Vick arrived May 14 through May 22. They did prayer walks and evangelism in the Industrial Valley squatter community in the city of Marikina. The team helped the new church planter pastor become more well known in the community. They held daily basketball camp and outreach for 150 children. The highlight was the Basketball Exhibition Game with players from the community. Over 500 people attended the event.

    IMPACT Team – May 2004

Team Leader Van Elander, Rick Hoover and Mike Eggerling arrived May 14 through May 25. The team helped build a roof for Adonai Foursquare Church in Quezon City. They also did street evangelism on their down time.

Found a House … Lost the House

We were so excited to have found a house. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. We had the house inspected only to find out that it had major structural damage. We were told that the house needed more rebar for reinforcements. We also found out that the house is located along the fault lines. One major earthquake can send the house tumbling down. I’m glad we had it inspected. I guess home inspections are not very common here when renting or buying a home. The search for another house continues.

    Tina Applies for Dual Citizenship

Tina was able to apply for her dual citizenship as a Filipino citizen since she was born in the Philippines. The process was a learning experience for her. She learned PATIENCE. The reason for her reacquisition as a citizen will help with the release of our shipping container without paying major taxes. It will take four weeks to be approved. Meanwhile, she was issued a pending certificate letter for customs.

    Shipping Container Arrives Early

We expected our shipping container to arrive June 15 or so. We were told five days later that our container arrived May 29th. This made us panic a little since we have not found a house yet. Our original bill of lading didn’t arrive on time as well . Not only was it late but also the information was wrong. Our container still sits in storage as I type this letter. Fortunately, the shipper will pay all storage and demurrage fees due to their mistake. We are hoping for our container to be released this Friday. We thank God that our customs broker is one of our pastor’s brother-in-law. He has been a blessing! As for a house, pray that we find one this week.

    Tina’s Family Visit

What a treat for Tina’s family to visit us this month. Tina’s sister, Ret, visited us from Guam. Tina’s Dad visited from Japan. Tina’s nephew visited from Los Angeles.

    Prayer Requests

Thanks for all your prayers this last month. Here are this month’s prayer requests:
  • That we find a house this week since our container will be released this Friday
  • Customs will release our container without paying too much
  • Tina and Cameron’s health – they have the flu
  • Pete – meeting with pastors by division to discuss microfinancing
  • Cameron and Carina – new friends
  • Safe and productive journey to Manila for our Sr. Pastor Jim Hayford
